An Evergreen climber, which is extremely fast growing is ale to growing more than 20 feet or more in height and width.

Identifying Features

Nearly thornless branches and stems.
Double yellow flowers
Rough bark that peels

Location/Habitat:

Originated in China, in 1827 it was taken to England through the East India Trading Company. Sir Banks gave the rose to his wife, hence the name, Lady Banks.
They grow best in Mediterranean or Tropical climates. Nearly tropical due to it being frost tender.

Flower/Fruit/Reproduction:

The plant can produce 1000's of blooms in one season.
The plant only blooms once a year in late winter, early spring.
They plant produces double rose blooms (a rose in a rose).
Pruning annually will increase plant size and bloom capacity.

Water/Sun Requirements:

Temperature: -10 to 120 degrees Farengheit
Full Sun, some shade in the heat of the summer.
Drought tolerant, as any plant it survives better with an adaquate supply of water. A regular supply of water when first planted will provide a foundation for the main roots.

Special Adaptations:

Most disease resistant rose, many other types of roses can get blackspots or mildew, but the Lady Banks commonly do not.

Other Info:

The "World's Largest Rose" (in Tombstone, Arizona) is a Lady Banks' Rose, and supported by 68 posts and spanning 70 feet in diameter. It covers 8000 square feet and was planted in 1855.
The rose is named after the wife of Sir Joseph Banks, who was the legendary head of the Royal Horticultural Society of Great Britain in the 1820's.
There are two varieties of the Lady Banks Rose; white and yellow. The white flowers have more fragrance than the yellow flower, but the yellow flower is the most popular.
