The seed of the Modesto ash is called a samara. A samara is a winged often one-seeded indehiscent fruit, that has a hard green or tan covering. The samara tend to be .5 to an inch in length. The female and male fruits grow on different trees and will only appear if a tree of the opposite sex is nearby. http://cals.arizona.edu
